An Introduction to Trucking
The transportation industry is possibly one of the most important of all industries. The impact of the
industry on the economic structure of our country can easily be visualizedby considering the role the transportation
plays in each of our daily lives. Look at the labels and tags on each item we eat, use and wear every day
and think about where each of these items came from. Items that were made overseas in foreign countries had
to be shipped by some form of transportation. Probably a ship, maybe by planr or train, but most without
exception, these items were on a truck at one time or another, on their way to market or to our homes.
The trucking segment of the industry is the vital link between the producer and the customer. Without trucks
millions of tons of freight would be sitting at rail yards, shipyards and airports, waiting for transport to
its final destination.
The most critical element in the transportation industry is the driver. The purpose behind this training
program is to provide the new driver with the necessary skills and the information to become a professional
driver and meet or exceed the rigid demands that the industry requires.
This course has been designed to allow the entry-level student to progress through various stages, learning
the different vehicle systems and components, as well as the driving principles and practices, until
achieving the skills necessary to become a solo driver.
*All schools are contracted through Truck Driving Academy of Sacramento, Ca.
